Candice Taylor
About
Candice ‘CRT’* Taylor, born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. With musical talent oozing from their mother’s side (Bullock) of the family, singing and music was their first introduction into the world of art. The first dance form that resonated with them was Krump. It was within this style they truly found their voice which allowed them to tell their story. They began their formal dance training in Ballet, Modern, Tap, and Jazz at Boston Arts Academy and continued their studies throughout college. After receiving their bachelor’s, they went on to work for Disney Cruise Line. They arrived in New York at age 22, since they’ve had the privilege to work and train with artists such as Bill T Jones, Sekou Heru, Tweet Boogie, Sidra Bell, Soraya Lundy and many more.
CRT joined Dancers Unlimited in 2019, after creating and training with the company at its open rehearsals since 2017. Since becoming Co-Artistic Director in 2021, they have helped establish collaborative relationships with organizations such as Brooklyn Grange, Good Life Garden, La Mama Experimental Theater, and Vivistop. They have also facilitated workshops in NYC, Boston, Hawai’i, Brazil and virtually. Their work Soul Food was featured at the 42nd Annual Battery Dance Festival and La Mama Moves! Festival 2024.
In 2020, they began Catch A Vibe, which is a pop-up guided freestyle session based in New York. It’s designed to expand the moving mind using play, exploration, and dialogue. It is a safe space to reflect, refine, and redefine the artistic voice. They enjoy using dance as a way of connecting, communicating, and exchanging energy, stories, ideas and philosophies. They wish to continue to use movement as a vessel for cultivating change. Their body is their voice and they feel it is their duty to speak as loud as possible.
